Tell Congress to Address Physician Burnout Today!
1345 actions taken
655 needed to reach next goal
Physicians
experience the highest suicide rate of any profession in the United States and
COVID-19 has exacerbated the stress and burnout that have been a longstanding
challenge for the medical profession. The burden of losing both patients and
colleagues, operating in conditions previously considered unfathomable, and
managing the stress of potentially transmitting a deadly virus to family and
friends are challenges that anyone would need help with. Congress has an
obligation and an opportunity to provide the healthcare workforce with the
support it needs and deserves.
The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Act, named for an emergency physician who died from suicide after dealing with the stress of treating COVID-19 patients, would help address physician burnout by funding new programs to study the issue and train health care professionals in evidence-based strategies to reduce burnout.
